Well, it finally happened, out of some combination of business and laziness, no post for a day or so. But did a lot of cool things regardless!

A lot of this stuff is really just "living my best life" #thingsmillenialssay

Did I mention it's gorgeous here?

Anyhow, to fast forward to some food, found a great restaurant, Kai Cafe for lunch. MUST GO IF ARE IN GALWAY. Here's stuff I couldn't eat, but wish I could:

😢

But had a great fresh crab salad!

Underrated, reading the paper at lunch in a cool town.

Decided to go to the church concert-- there's one almost every evening here at 8 pm #tunesinthechurch. People really use space here, no matter how historic or consecrated. Obligatory church pix here:

Ok, so that last one is important for a couple of reasons:

1) It's the tombstone of one of the key mayors in Galway's history

2) It was the stage for the singing and dancing about to take place.

That means, literally, I spent my time in a church watching someone dance on someone's grave.

The harpist behind him was amazing, had a wonderful singing voice as well. I don't want to just make this chock full of clips, but believe me when I say the church's acoustics were phenomenal. I also need to learn the difference between a jig, hornpipe, and a reel... but that's a later problem.

Anyhow, afterwards, met up with Alex Newton and one of his choir friends at a nearby bar for yet more music. I was tickled that the name of this all-white band was the "Black Magic Band", and they played a song by Average White Band, as below:

All in all pretty good for an 18-piece band!

And just because I don't want to do two posts, here's some shots from my poitin distillery today.

Did you know section:

-poitin is like irish moonshine, but it tastes like irish tequila?

-whiskey [sic] comes from the irish usquebaugh, meaning "water of life"? Comes from when monks used to call it acqua vita after initially creating it

-poitin was illegal allegedly to make until just a few years ago... so, officially you'll hear a lot about distilleries popping up with it then. (warning, may have taken place before a couple of years ago).

-the irish owner of this distillery will deliberately speak irish to his employee in certain parts to make sure you don't understand what they're saying.

Absolutely a beautiful day in Galway here today btw... don't want to waste it inside so heading out soon!

Wish I could still feel the breeze

Random Thoughts:

-For the music nerds out there, just learned that a reel is in simple time (2/2, 4/4, etc.) and a jig is in compound time (6/8, etc.). A hornpipe is a reel, but has dotted rhythms (so it *feels* syncopated). Whew, was worried there for a second.🤓

-Guys, don't be fooled by the cool sounding place "Mutton Island" if you come here. You'd think "at the very least it'll be scenic", but turns out it's just a waste management facility. Which, even worse after I walked all the way there, turns out you can't even go on the island!

Moment of Zen:
